News and Recipes From the Farm

Summer is here!

Here it is July 1 and the heat out here is almost hot enough to light the fireworks.  The blackberries are just about gone.

We may have a few for this weekend but that will be the last of them.  The blueberries that were pink and green last week are beginning to turn that beautiful dusty blue (that we all love).  Right now, I think that we will finish the berry season on July 19th at 3 p.m.  I will update you in the next newsletter.

This weekend (Saturday) is our Red, White and Blueberry Festival.  It’s hard to stress just how important this fund raiser is for the Sadler Volunteer Fire Department.  It’s a very small fire department and they responds mainly to grass fires and automobile accidents.  The Red, White and Blueberry Festival is the only fund raiser that they have all year.  They have gotten a good response this year from a number of businesses in Whitesboro and a couple in Sherman.  A big THANK YOU goes out to the following sponsors:

American Bank of Texas
Bailey’s Berry Patch
Binswanger Glass Company
David’s Grocery
DC’s Lazer Tag & Games
Don Ham Quarter Horses
Doug’s Corner Golf Carts
Franks Body Shop
Enderby Gas
Golden Chicken
Happy Dave’s Wrecker Service
Holiday Chevrolet

Lunar Mini Golf
Movie Gallery
Oil Spot
Prime Time Graphics
Stucky Animal Hospital

Please come on Saturday, July 5th ….

You will be able to pick blueberries, eat their hamburgers and hot dogs, drink their blueberry lemonade (that we are donating to them) and play their games.  If you can, drop an extra $5 or $10 into the donation containers…..  It will do so much good!!!!

This will be the last Saturday for entertainment and vendors.
It will be too hot to bring them out in the heat.  I do hope that I can talk our wonderful food vendors into coming out on July 12 and July 19 but we will just have to wait and see.

Please, please come berry picking early.
I can’t stress enough how hot it gets from noon on.  Thank you for a wonderful season.  I have received some very special e-mails from many of you and they mean a great deal to us.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is full of sun glasses, children’s flip flops and lots of other things (including a woman’s bra????).  I don’t think that there is anything of great monetary value but, if you have lost something of sentimental value, please let us know.  If we don’t hear from you, everything goes to Goodwill after the season

Now ----

Click for RecipesHere are three recipes for this newsletter.  I am so thrilled to say that they are from two very lovely people who have been to pick.  Debbie Watt emailed me the recipe for " Easy Blackberry Cobbler" and one for "Oatmeal Blueberry Muffins".  Sue Gaddie sent me a recipe for "Blueberry Fritters".   I can’t wait to try all three of them…  I am going to have to wait a little while since Pearce is on a diet.

All of you take care of yourselves and come out, please, before the season ends!
