End of the Berry Season
Saturday, July 12, 2008.
As Gomer Pyle used to say “surprise, surprise, surprise”. (You may be too young to remember Gomer Pyle, Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee. – but I’m not…) Our regular berry season is going to be over on 7/12. The RIPE berries are all picked out. Did you notice that I said “ripe” berries? We have quite a few blueberries that are still green or pink. We think that it will take about 2 weeks before they are ready to pick. I’m not going to tell anyone but you when they get ready. If everything works out like I think that it will, we should be able to open (at least) 2 mornings for you to come to the Berry Patch and pick the rest of the blueberries. I am not going to tell anyone else and I’m not going to put it on the web site. These berries are just for those of you who have signed up to receive our newsletter. We had hoped that we would have enough blueberries to open on 7/16 and 7/19, but we don’t. So I am going to sleep late for a few days.

I’m going to keep this newsletter short and sweet. I want to thank all of you for being so supportive of Pearce, me and The Berry Patch. It has been a wonderful year. The berries didn’t last as long as they usually do, but it has to be that the weather (or Mother Nature) fiddled with this berry season. Take care of yourselves and, if I don’t have the opportunity to see you again this summer, have a wonderful fall. Personally I am looking forward to the cooler weather and, just maybe, a little rain.
Here are 2 new recipes for you. Both of them use preserves rather that the fresh fruit. They sounded really nice since they could be made during the different times of the year when fresh fruit is not available.. A big thank you to Christy Bowers for sending me the first recipe – Blackberry & White Chocolate Bars. I haven’t had a chance to make them yet but they do sound yummy. The next one that I am sending to you is a recipe for Blueberry Cheesecake Bars that uses blueberry preserves. I hope that you enjoy both of them.
