2009 Berry Season Comes to a Close...
2009’s berry season is now past. As most of you know, we certainly did not have the quantity of berries that we usually have. The frost and freeze on April 7, 2009 "did in" the majority of the of our fruit crop for this year. Of course, the plants were not damaged – as a matter of fact, every bush and tree has grown all summer long. I guess that it was because they didn’t have to put all their energy into the fruit.
We do still have a few – very few – gallon bags of frozen blueberries. Call before you come to get yours to make certain that we are home and that there are still some left.
As usual, we are going to take August off in order to get our bodies cool.
June and early July were so hot this year that I kept trying to think of a way to keep ice in my underwear. We closed a week ago and (of course) the weather cooled off. Where was this when we needed it?

Fall Program Lineup
I am currently working on getting programs scheduled for this fall. The first one is already planned. If you have a special program or an interest that you would like addressed, please let me know. This is a great way of getting your message out to a select group of interested people.
Organic Gardening Program Slated September 12
The first program for this fall will be held on Saturday, September 12th. The program will be on organic fertilizer, organic composting and vermicomposting (composting using red worms). I know that there are a lot of you who will be interested in this. The program will be put on by Nathan and Kevin Bruce. These two brothers have started a new business called North Texas Organics. Their goal is to produce high quality completely organic fertilizers. They believe that the health of the soil is essential to the health of people and other living things and have committed themselves to preserving the health of the environment and all living things by providing high quality organic compost and vermicompost that is safe for use with organic crops or any plant, garden, or landscape needs. If you want more information, you might visit their web site - northtexasorganics.net.
The program will start at 10 am and will be over at approximately 2 pm. The cost per person is $20 and will include lunch. We would prefer for you to register in advance in order to plan for everyone and will take cash, checks and credit cards for payment. If you are unable to be here once you have registered, cancellations made prior to September 9th will be given a refund.
Please pass the information on our September 12th program on to your friends. I know that everyone will find this interesting and very beneficial.
One of the many things that I like about each berry season is that we get to meet new people and make new friends. This year R.W. High and his wife, Lenda, are among some the strangers that became special to us. R.W. and Lenda brought their precious miniature donkeys, Summer and Sher, here on Saturdays during June. The children loved petting and talking to these little babies.
Lenda is a great cook and has given us two recipes that I want to pass on to you. One is Banana & Blueberry Bread and the other one is Pear & Blueberry Bread. These loaves are not that sweet and are perfect to cut and toast for breakfast. I know that you will enjoy both of them.

Thank you, Lenda!

The Berry Farm is still for sale. We have a number of very nice people who seem interested in buying it but don’t have a contract yet. We’ll keep you posted.
If you know anyone who would like to step into a proven successful operating business while enjoying the great 'Country Life' at the same time, please have them give us a call! Click for sale information.
See you in September!
Hugs –
